The First Time

Isn't it a funny thing when your baby sleeps through the night for the first time? On one hand, you're excited that the baby has finally slept through the night, but on the other hand, you're wondering all night why she hasn't awakened yet!

After many unpredictable nights with Genevieve, she finally slept through the night last night.

Me on the other hand....

I woke up at 2am, peeked at her, still asleep.

Woke up at 4am, peeked at her, still asleep but should be waking up at any moment.

Woke up at 5am....okay, time to feel her to make sure she's still breathing. Whew....still breathing.

Finally, at 6am I hear that sweet little cry that I had been waiting for since 2am.

Even after seven babies, that first "sleep through the night" still gets me! We'll see how she does tonight.  And how I do!

Genevieve is eight weeks old today! Wasn't she just born last Monday???

  1. I'm with you... where does the time go? The other great thing about a nursing baby sleeping through the night for the first time is the wet bed you get to wake up to :P

My baby is 10-1/2 months and I keep thinking "Didn't I just go into labor a couple weeks ago?" LOL They just grow so fast...

I hope you'll be able to stay asleep the next time the baby sleeps through. Now THAT is a great feeling :)

  2. I agree, that first night the baby sleeps through is amazing--now if you could just get to sleep too. I always remember the next morning thinking "Man, if I had known you were going to do that I wold have taken advantage of it and slept as well."

Good luck on getting some sleep tonight!

  3. When Rowan first started sleeping through the night I remember having dreams that he was crying to nurse and I would get out of bed and pick him up to nurse him only to discover that he had actually been asleep and I had woke him up. And then of course once he was awake he wanted to go ahead and nurse. I would get so mad at myself! This went on for at least a month where nearly every other night I would wake him up thinking he was crying.

  5. Your right, Candace! I use to do the same thing. I would worry half the night about why the babies weren't waking up and then be tired the next day. It's just that mother instinct.
Hope your gang is getting better
